Throwing Off

October 31, 2008

There he was, a blind man on the side of the road. He has heard about Jesus, this man who heals people. But being blind he can not go to Jesus. He does not want to be a burden, to beg for what he needs. He wants to see so he can work. He hears now that Jesus will be passing by and he gets excited. He hears the crowds and tries to cry out to Jesus, but the people around him try to shut him up. Jesus stops and calls him. Then, the moment of truth, what does he do?

Mark 10:50 Common
50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.

He threw aside the garment. The garment was a cloak that he wore to identify him as a beggar. All beggars had to wear them. As long as he wore it, it identified him as a beggar. He threw it off, nothing was going to get in his way to get his sight.

We all want something in our life that needs to come from God. In order to get it, what do you need to throw away?
