Lord of the harvest, burn your fire in me

October 25, 2008

We all have friends and loved ones that we want to come to know God, right? How do you pray for them? Do you pray that they will leave their ways to become a Christian, or do you pray that they will have someone cross their path to tell them about Jesus? Which is scriptural?

Luke 10:2 Montgomery
2 And he thus addressed them. "The harvest is abundant, but the harvesters are few. do you therefore pray the lord of the harvest to send forth harvesters into his harvest.

There are a lot of people out there that need to know Jesus. Jesus tells us that we need to pray that the harvest is there but there are not enough workers. In Biblical times, when it was time for the harvest, if there were not enough people then the person overseeing the harvest would go to the lord of the harvest to get enough workers to do the job. Jesus is the Lord of the Harvest. He tells us to pray that there will be enough people to work the harvest.

There is one thing to notice here. If we all pray for there to be enough harvesters, and no one does the harvest, then we will reap nothing. There will be times in your prayers for others that you will be asked to witness to others. The man who went to the lord of the harvest was also one who did the harvest as well. Likewise, when we pray to Jesus for more workers, we must be prepared to become ones that help in the harvest as well.
