You will not leave like you came

September 12, 2008

God gave a command to the people when the temple was to be rebuilt. When they came for the redemption of their sins they had to follow a different path out.

Ezekiel 46:9 ESV
(9) "When the people of the land come before the LORD at the appointed feasts, he who enters by the north gate to worship shall go out by the south gate, and he who enters by the south gate shall go out by the north gate: no one shall return by way of the gate by which he entered, but each shall go out straight ahead.

Why was that? Doesn't it seem strange?

Maybe we try to make things harder than they are. If they left the same way that they came in, they would be going back into there sins. Symbolically they had to see that going bask the same way was going back to their sins.

Likewise, we have to see what our sin can do to us when we confess it to God. Do not go back to the same path that took you into that sin in the first place. Do not return to the sin. You need to walk away from it, not to it.
