Place of the skull

January 2, 2012
The Life of Jesus; read today:  Jesus carries the cross; John 19:17

LEB: John 19:17. and carrying for himself the cross, he went out to the place called The Place of a Skull (which is called Golgotha in Aramaic),

It was a place of the skull. Means nothing to me in this day and age, but to the people of Jesus time it meant a lot. It was a place where supposedly Adam was buried. More importantly it was a place where peoples bones were thrown.  It was an unclean place. Unclean places make a person unclean. Under Jewish law, they needed a sacrifice to become clean again.  A lamb was always a good sacrifice.

So, into this unclean place came the one that would make us all clean again, that would make it so that there was no more sacrifices needed.

It was bad enough all the other things that He had to go through for me.  One more degrading thing like being killed in an unclean place should not make a difference.  But it does. He did it for me. What more can I do for Him?

Unclean

February 17, 2008

Leviticus 15:31 BBE
(31) In this way may the children of Israel be made free from all sorts of unclean conditions, so that death may not overtake them when they are unclean and when they make unclean my holy place which is among them.

In our lives we may not have to go through what the Israelites did when they sinned, but we do have to take the time to ask forgiveness of those who we have done wrong and of God. We must take the responsiblity for what we do.

If we do not clean ourselves of our sins, and then we try to enter into worship of God, then we are unclean. At that point, what will be like spiritual death will approach us. We will be apart form God and not able to hear His voice. We need to move back to God so that we can hear Him

Clean from Unclean

January 17, 2007

Job 14:4 KJV
(4) Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

Job said some amazing things. As I work through his words, I have to stop to make sure, read it slowly, not because it is boring, but because I want to make sure that I find those nuggets.

Job makes a statement that his friends ignore. And at first glance it looks like most of us would also. I mean, clean out of unclean, what is he talking about here? Obviously water that is unclean can not be clean right. And an unclean animal, one that by God's law could not be eaten. There are two possible things that it could mean. But Job is questioning God here. He is asking God why He istorturing Job. Man will sin. Why? Because he is unclean, and when he joins with an unclean woman, the result will be unclean. Job is saying, look, you made us this way, why the problems.

Now we know that Job was not getting punished by God. But what he had to say is true. And it is the reason that Jesus had to come. Only a clean God could conceive a clean Son. And only that Son could die for us so that our sins would be gone. Job was showing us that Jesus was to come in his own little way.
