Praying

September 27, 2008

How do others see you when you pray? Better yet, how do you see God when you pray? Do you see Him as a cosmic slot machine? You put your request in and out it comes. If we are built in God's image, and it would bother us if we were treated that way, do you think it might bother Him to.

As a parent I like it when my kids tell me how great a dad I am. God is a parent too. So let us use the example of Ezra as he prays in the book of Nehemiah:

Nehemiah 9:6 (MSG)

6 You're the one, GOD, you alone; You made the heavens, the heavens of heavens, and all angels; The earth and everything on it, the seas and everything in them; You keep them all alive; heaven's angels worship you!

When we turn to God in prayer we need to take time to reflect on just how great a God He is. Even more important is the idea that we jave to let Him know that we know that.
