Nothing New

August 25, 2010

The life of Jesus. Read Today: Jesus leaves and they plot against Him; Luke 11:53-54

Luke 11:53-54 (English Standard Version)
53 As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard and to provoke him to speak about many things,
54 lying in wait for him, to catch him in something he might say.

The book of Ecclesiastes says it best, there is nothing new under the sun. Jesus had just told these people that they had built monuments to the prophets that they had killed. Now they were planning on killing another one.

Our world is not much different. You come to them with a message that can heal them, their broken families, their shattered lives, and they reject it as being judgemental.  They will watch for your every mistake and make it news for everyone to hear.

Or is that me. People try to help me and I try to discredit them as these people did Jesus? I think sometimes I am just as much a plotting person as I am the person who gets plotted against.

Read for next time: Jesus teaches a great crowd; Luke 12:1-12
