Do I have to?

The life of Jesus. Read Today:Parable of the Good Samaritan; Luke 10:29 - 37
You know, there are some verses in the Bible that I would like to just tear out and pretend that were not there. I know that no one else is like that, I must be the only one.
Luke 10:37 (American King James Version)
37 And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus to him, Go, and do you likewise.
Ouch! Is there any way that we can say this differently folks. I looked at a few different translations and they all say about the same. Even the wordy Amplified says it about the same.
I mean, do I have to do this God? Do I have to forgive those who want to push my buttons and get me angry (even if I do not get angry)? Do I have to love those who do not want to love me and in fact will try to use me?
Yes, God says, you do. You have to show mercy on those who are unlovable.
