Serving God like a .... soldier

October 4, 2007

2Ti 2:4 WNT
(4) Every one who serves as a soldier keeps himself from becoming entangled in the world's business--so that he may satisfy the officer who enlisted him.

If someone is in the military they can tell you that any thing that keeps their focus of their jobs can cause problems in their military jobs. They either have to learn to separate themselves mentally or they have to leave. A soldier can not serve the military properly if his mind is on the world.

We also cannot serve God properly if our mind is on the world. That is not to say that God does not want us to have nice things. That is to say that God does not want things to have us. If we want our things so bad, then we can not serve properly and we are not affective in the battle to bring Jesus to the world.

I heard a statistic today that seems like it would make sense though it had no source for them. The average Christian spends 2 minutes a day reading the Bible but 5 hours a day watching TV. It looks like we have Christians that would like to leave God's army. What can we do to motivate them, or ourselves?
