Keeping the law

February 20, 2009

The life of Jesus. Read Today: Jesus in Jerusalem at the 2nd Passover; John 5:1

John 5:1 Jubilee2000
1 After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Does it seem strange that this verse is in the Bible?  I mean, a fest is just a gathering together to eat some food right?  It may seem that way but it is more important.  This feast was the feast of the Passover. All Jews were to travel to Jerusalem if they were able body to celebrate it.  It commemorated the Jewish people leaving Egypt and traveling through the wilderness to get to the promised land.  The people had to act like it was the first Passover, and kill a lamb and use it's blood to deliver themselves.

Isn't it ironic?  The one whose blood was going to deliver the people He was among was celebrating the ceremony that foretold of His coming. It was however the law, and for Jesus to die for us, He had to follow the law.

Maybe you should take some time today to thank Jesus for following even the most simple law so that you do not have to.  Maybe also, it might be a good idea to read over some of those laws and follow them.

Read for tomorrow: Man healed at pools of Bethesda; John 5:2-15
