Excuses

February 24, 2009

The life of Jesus. Read Today: Man's hand healed on the Sabbath; Matthew 12:9-14; Mark 3:1-6; Luke 6:6-11

Matthew 12:11-14 ESV
11 He said to them, “Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out?
12 Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And the man stretched it out, and it was restored, healthy like the other.
14 But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.

People who do not like what you are trying to do for Christ will always find some way to find fault with what you do. It reminds me of an old Gospel tune called 'Excuses'
. In that song people gave excuses why they were not in church. A whole family stayed home because one boy had a cold. Another because the music was too loud, another because the music was too soft. Just realize that you will not please all people.

Jesus tried to explain to him that under the rules it was OK to do something good on the Sabbath. You would rescue an animal so why not free a human. But they would not hear of it. Like the people in the song, they found one reason or another not to agree with Jesus. You will have the same in any ministry that you attempt to do.

Read for tomorrow: Jesus withdraws to the sea; Matthew 12:14-21; Mark 3:7
