Who lifts your head?

May 16, 2008

Psalm 3:3 (The Message)
The Message (MSG)

3-4 But you, God, shield me on all sides;
You ground my feet, you lift my head high;
With all my might I shout up to God,
His answers thunder from the holy mountain.

Yesterday we looked at Absalom, David's son. He tried to take the kingdom from David. He build himself up and took what did not rightfully belong to him. He did not let God do the lifting. David obviously did not teach his son what he had learned himself.

David had learned what Jesus would later tell Pilot. Power, true power, comes from God. It may not look like God is in control in our times of high fuel and food costs, but He is. Things are going on in the background that we will never know.

It is God who put David in power. It is He who lifted David's head. What a strange terminology. When we hold our head up high, then we have confidence and power. That cannot come from anything that we do, but what God does. He is the one who helps to lift our head.

Live in His power and not your own.
