The gods for our sons

May 27, 2008

1 Chronicles 28:9 BBE
(9) And you, Solomon my son, get knowledge of the God of your father, and be his servant with a true heart and with a strong desire, for the Lord is the searcher of all hearts, and has knowledge of all the designs of men's thoughts; if you make search for him, he will be near you; but if you are turned away from him, he will give you up for ever.

David gave a charge to Solomon that we should give to all of our young men when they grow up. He told Solomon to 'get knowledge of the God of your father.' Good advice for any child. Or is it?

What God would your sons follow dad (or mom for that matter)? Would it be the god of television, or sports, or success, or sex? Which god would he follow? Our lives are shinning examples for our children. We are not going to be perfect, do not even try. When you make a mistake though, be man enough to admit it and ask forgiveness. Our children will be much more likely to remember that, and that you did what God asked you to when it came time to forgive. You see, they want to see God in you. Take some time to make sure that they do.
