(5) Why are you depressed, O my soul?
Why are you upset?
Wait for God!
For I will again give thanks
to my God for his saving intervention.
As I have mentioned, depression can be a real illness. It is something that either requires a healing from God or a doctor to intervene with medicine. So understand that what I say now is not a medical depression. Even with that there is some suggestion that the reason for the chemical in-balance in the brain is because of the depression so if you got out of the depression the chemical would balance. Of course, I could say the depression is caused by the in-balance, so it that becomes a endless argument.
On the other hand, people can get depressed on a day to day basis, even if they are on anti-depressants. The natural rhythm of life causes us to be up and down with the flow of events. The thing that we have to remember as Christians is that we know the future is to be better. Our verse today tells us to tell our soul to wait on God when we get down. We are to tell ourselves that things are going to be better. The crisis we are facing will end, and we will be able to continue with our lives.
Know when the days are dark, the light will shine again.
