Shields

August 18, 2007

Eph 6:16 KJV
(16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

A shield in the time that the Bible was written was a large item that a man could stand behind. It would be made of leather that a man would have to oil up regularly so that the leather would not dry up. If the leather dried it would catch fire easily and if an arrow with fire hit it, the man behind it would be without much protection. For this reason, a solider would take very special care of the shield, every day oiling it and repairing it.

In our life, we must take special care to oil up our faith. If we do not maintain it we can get it trouble. We can take that faith and maintain it by reading and listening to things that are uplifting. If all we watch on TV is soap operas and crime shows (and not just them), and never get into the Bible or Bible study in any way, shape or form, or in uplifting stories , then we will weaken our faith. Then when Satan tries to come against us with his fire arrows, our shield will burn up quickly and we will have little left to defend us.

Take some time today to oil up your shield.
