Fiding Jesus

January 13, 2009

The life of Jesus. Read Today: Wise men bring gifts Matthew 2:1 - 12

I listened to a sermon on a podcast a few weeks ago and the minister talked about this incident. Herod was given the title of King of the Jews so that he could bring the Jewish people into submission to Roman law. He was of the Jewish faith so this was to help him. God tried to tell Herod about the birth of Jesus but he would not listen. He could have seen the same star that the wise men saw as well as the announcement that the angels gave to the shepherds. When the wise men came they asked about this King, and Herod pulled all the 'church people together and had church to get the story right. The kicker comes with this.

Matthew 2:7-8 BBE
7 Then Herod sent for the wise men privately, and put questions to them about what time the star had been seen.
8 And he sent them to Beth-lehem and said, Go and make certain where the young child is; and when you have seen him, let me have news of it, so that I may come and give him worship.

So he was basically saying, 'hey, this Jesus sounds interesting. I am not ready to find Him just yet! Why don't you find Him and report back to me later. Human nature has not changed much in 2000 years. People still say that today. Of course Herod died. What will happen to you?
