Where do you go to worship?

March 15, 2008

Deuteronomy 12:8-11 VW
(8) You shall not do as we are doing here today; every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes;
(9) for as yet you have not come to the rest and the inheritance which Jehovah your God is giving to you.
(10) But when you have crossed over the Jordan and dwelt in the land which Jehovah your God is giving you to inherit, and He has given you rest from all your enemies round about, so that you dwell in safety,
(11) then there shall be the place which Jehovah your God will choose to establish His name. There you shall bring all that I am commanding you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the heave offerings of your hand, and all your choice offerings which you vow unto Jehovah.

Before we come to know the Lord we can worship Him any way that we choose. If we want to sleep in and say that we can worship Him by getting in touch with nature, then that is OK. When we decide to know the Lord though we have to do things His way. In the beginning of the nation of Israel they had to go to the place that God had chosen. Any place else was not a place to worship God. They had moved to the promised land and they had to do what God told them to do.

When we become Christians and accept Jesus as our Lord, we too enter the promised land. We need to listen to God and go where He tells us for church. We need to listen to the sacrifices that He wants us to make for Him there. We are not to go any place that we want to go, we are to go where He guides us.
