Flack Jackets

August 14, 2007

Eph 6:14 AUV-NT
(14) ...and with the “flack jacket” of righteousness on your chest.

We are all familiar with the King James translation that says breastplate, but what can we compare it to. That is why I chose this translation today. What does a flack jacket do? It protects the wearer by deflecting oncoming bullets sent by an enemy. While it is good for short distance battles with knives as well it is meant for the long distance stuff.

So what is righteousness? In my Bible Study tool (E-Sword) it provides this definition from Webster's dictionary.

1. Purity of heart and rectitude of life; conformity of heart and life to the divine law. Righteousness, as used in Scripture and theology, in which it is chiefly used, is nearly equivalent to holiness, comprehending holy principles and affections of heart, and conformity of life to the divine law. It includes all we call justice, honesty and virtue, with holy affections; in short, it is true religion.
Think of what that divine law means. Do I have it in me. Jesus said to 'Love the Lord with your whole heart and mind and soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself. When you walk out the door each morning to go to work are you envious of your neighbor who has the latest car while you drive a 10 year old piece of junk? Driving to work do you see some one jogging and say 'I wish myspouse keep themselves up that well'? I could ask more questions but I think you get the picture.

I guess we need to stop in the morning for sure and get that flack jacket on. If not Satan could take a shot and his bullets are deadly.
