The tenth animal

Leviticus 27:32 UPDV
(32) And all the tithe of the herd or the flock, whatever passes under the rod, the tenth will be holy to Yahweh.
In the days of Leviticus, a tenth of the produce of the land was to be given to the priest as a payment to God. It was used by the priest as a way to live since they were not to do 'real' work. The flocks, however, were a different case. They were to take all new born animals and run them in a line. Every tenth animal was to be separated out to the Lord. The owners were not to take the bad ones and put them in a certain place in line. God was to take what He got, it did not matter if it was good or bad.
These animals were not the same as the sacrifices, they were to be whole and without blemish. These animals were to be taken as they were. You could take a blemished animal and move it to the tenth one, nor could you move a blemished one out because you were feeling guilty that the Lord got the bad ones.
Today, we have passed 'under the rod' when we accepted Jesus. God takes us as we are. We cannot exchange ourselves for something better, neither can we be worse. God gets us as we are. An interesting thing happens however. If any man be in Christ, he becomes a new creature. You see, God did not see the animals as blemished then and He does not see us as blemished now. We are whole in Him. If you do not know Jesus as savior, accept Him now. Get rid of your blemishes.
