Somebody Believed

Genesis 15:6 (The Message)

The Message (MSG)

6 And he believed! Believed God! God declared him "Set-Right-with-God."

The simple act of believing is both easy and complex. To one point, I want to be able to trust you (or someone else) so I believe that you will not hurt me. On the other hand, if I have had experience with you that may temper how much I can believe you. For example, a boss giving a job to a worker. By nature the boss would want to believe the worker can do it right, but based on previous experience with him or with other workers he has had, he may not believe that is possible.

What would you do if you were presented with someone that you could not see but had made you promises? You have no previous experience with this being, and for all you know you could be making him up. Do you trust in him or do you say forget it.

Abram had this problem. He had been told that he was going to have to believe God, a being that he had not seen but tried to follow. When he did, God declared Abram righteous, set right with God. Did Abram have to build a fire, prepare a sacrifice or anything else. While he did do those things, that is not what set him right with God, it was the fact that he believed.

Today you will have people who want you to believe in them, that they can do the job, that they will not hurt you, that you will do what you have promised. You only have to believe one thing in all your life. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. All those other things that you believe in others or that others believe in you will not matter in eternity. While they are important in the here and now, the life you spend in eternity with Jesus will not be changed by them.

Take time, like Abram, to trust God at His word. Be declared 'set-right-with-God!'
