Go for it

January 20, 2008

Genesis 25:26 Webster
(26) And after that his brother was born, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

I have always seen people talk about how sneaky and conniving that Jacob was. He stole his brothers birthright and then stole the blessing as well. In reading their story today I have seen something a little bit different.

Jacob knew what he wanted. He knew what he wanted right from birth and he was active in getting it. There was no waiting around for mom to push him out into the world, he was going to work to get his way out. All the other incidents of his life show something similar to me. When his brother came in hungry and not realizing what his birthright meant, he made a deal to get it. When dad wanted his last meal, he made arrangements to get it.

I am not saying all his dealings were honest. Tricking dad for the blessing was not. I would personally stop looking at Jacob as a thief and start looking at him as a businessman. He knew what he wanted and he grabbed for it with every once of gusto that he had. He lived life not as a passive sneak but knowing what he wanted and going for it.

Isn't that the way God wants us to live?
