Children of the Lord

November 27, 2008

Too often we want to harness the belief of a new Christian to get out and go win souls, especially if that new Christian is someone well known. This is not always a good thing. Paul in dealing with the Thessalonians spoke about his care for them after they fist came to Christ:

1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 ESV
(7) But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children.
(8) So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.

No mother would birth a child and then just throw it out to the world to defend itself. Likewise, when new converts come to Christ, we as Christians need to make sure that do not throw new converts out to the wolves in the world to be devoured.
