Strange Fire

Leviticus 10:1-2 (The Message)

Leviticus 10

1-2 That same day Nadab and Abihu, Aaron's sons, took their censers, put hot coals and incense in them, and offered "strange" fire to God—something God had not commanded. Fire blazed out from God and consumed them—they died in God's presence.

God has a very special way that He wants to be met. He told Moses to tell Aaron and his sons just how to do what they were supposed to do and what they were supposed to do it with. Now two of his sons had done just that. They had tried to come to God on their own terms, ignoring God's commands.

Today the world is not much different. In the Tulsa area where I live, a respected preacher of the Gospel got shunned by the church he had founded and grown because he started to teach that all were going to heaven if they were good people, that they did not need to know Jesus as a savior. His church is now closed and an empty shell on a busy road in and out of town. He burned strange fire before the Lord. And the local media love him because he preaches a Gospel of tolerance.

There are people that say that my sin is special, it is not a sin because God told me so, or that it is not a sin because how could it feel so good. Their lives often fall apart and they get burned by those who truly love them. They burn strange fire before the Lord.

Know that there is one judge for your actions, it is God Himself, not me. He will use His word, our Bible as the measuring stick. It might be a good idea to get into it and find out what it says.
