The law

The life of Jesus. Read Today: Lawyers Test Jesus; Luke 10: 25-28
Luke 10:25-28 (The Common Edition: New Testament)
25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?"
27 And he answered, "‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind’; and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’"
28 And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."
I wondered about this verse from time to time till I think I found peace in my answer. I thought to myself, of all the commands in the Old Testament, why did the lawyer pock these and why did Jesus agree with him? Isn’t ‘do not kill’ right up there with these? Or desiring your neighbors wife?
There is a clear reason why. If you think about it, these two laws sum up every other law. If you love God and love your neighbor as you love self, well then no one would ever have any problem.
Problem in our life today is too many people do not love God and a lot of them do not love themselves. We need to learn to love ourselves, and have a healthy image of the Father God. The we will find peace in our lives.
Read for next time: Parable of the Good Samaritan; Luke 10:29 - 37
