A question for faith

June 5, 2009

The life of Jesus. Read Today: Jesus heals two blind men; Matthew 9:27-31

Matthew 9:27-28 ESV
27 And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.”
28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.”

Here is a thought for you.  These blind men had been following Jesus according to what we read.  But Jesus did not heal them until after He got to the house that He was staying at.  How come?  I mean, they were crying for help.  Why did He ignore them for what ever distance was involved in going from Jairus house to here?

Jesus asks them if they believe He can do it and they say yes so He heals them. He must have know they believed that, they had been yelling it at Him.  So He knows they believe.  What was He up to?

Matthew 9:29 ESV
29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”

There is your answer.  Their faith.  Him asking them if they believed was just the final test.  When did they have the faith that they could be healed?  Was it they said they believed.  No, it was when they asked for it in the first place. Why do I think that? Because in verse 27 they were recognizing Him as the Messiah.  Their faith was established then.  Your faith will get questioned from time to time, just as these men had their faith questioned.  In the end, you need to say 'Yes, I believe.'

Read for tomorrow: Jesus heals a mute demoniac; Matthew 9:32-34
